Terminal Two, the additional terminal located on the north side of the Airport development is designed to handle in excess of 500 passengers per hour, a yearly total of 2.5 million passengers. In addition to scheduled flights, Terminal 2 will also cater for Charter flights, Executive flights and Special Interest flights such as those for the Haj pilgrimage. 1,200 sq. metres in this new terminal has been allocated to Duty Free shopping which will include a customers service desk for bulk purchase.

As an integral part of the Dubai International Airport expansion program, a total land area of 2.2 million sq. metres, has been allocated for the development of Dubai Airport Free Zone & Business Village.

This state-of -the art Free Zone will provide a supporting environment to a wide variety of technology-driven industries, including products with high value-to-weight ratio; manufacture assembly and trade of time sensitive products; services to aviation and high technology industries, and technical and professional support services.

HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President, Dubai Department of Civil Aviation commented: " Our main object is to consolidate Dubai’s status as a regional hub allowing the international business community to reach the 1.4 billion consumers surrounding the U.A.E.

Mr. Mohi-din Binhendi, Director General of t he Dubai Department of Civil Aviation added: " The completion of the first stage of Dubai Airport Free Zone & business Village towards the first quarter of 1998 will add a new dimension of services provided to investors in Dubai."

Dubai Airport Free Zone and Business Village will provide an unequalled level of quality service, developing a one-stop Service for its tenant companies, assisting with administrative tasks such as application paperwork, visas, executive site visits, marketing and relocation requirements, while acting as an interface with the Municipality and Government.

The Dubai Airport Free Zone and Business Village will be built around a high quality infrastructure providing digital communications, reliable power and other utilities supporting the needs of sophisticated technology companies.

  • 9,442 sq. metres of gross office floor space in the Administration building has been allocated for the use of the Free Zone tenants. These hi-tech commercial offices have been specially designed to accommodate the needs of multinational and regional corporations. (Rate: 120 AED per Sq.)

  • Pre built light industrial units and warehouses, covering an area of 72,000 sq. metres will allow Dubai Airport Zone tenants an immediate start of operation. (Rental rates: 45 AED per Sqf)

  • 209,000 Sqm of developed land has been allocated to companies who wish to design and erect their own premises (Land rental rate: 10-12 AED per Sq. f)
  • To further facilitate the operation of its tenants, Dubai Airport Free Zone Business Village Authority has allocate an area of 140,000 Sq. metres of apron space capable of handling 10 Boeing 747-400 aircraft for prompt air services.
  • Public utility and service outlets such as restaurants, pharmacies, clinic, speciality retail and banking outlets will cover an area of 2,361sq. metres and will also be available for the use Dubai Airport Zone and Business Village tenants.

    1999 will see the launch of the permanent Airshow Site located within the Dubai Airport Free Zone & Business Village development., The 31,000 sq. metres of highly sophisticated exhibition halls will be serviced by a 5,777 sq. metres of offices in the Reception building. These grounds will also be used to host other major airport related exhibitions.


    To date many blue-chip companies, have been granted licenses- to set up at the Free Zone: Aviation related industries such as Boeing, Agusta, Air Express International and DHL will undertake services and distributions such as Ricoh Mastech, Evans & Sutherland and Digital have received approval to establish a services operation, Marketing offices for Dell computers, Grillo Wreke and International Autosource were also granted licence; in addition other major companies like International Samsonite Corp and Tag-Heuer Chanel and SMH the group for Longines, Swatch and omega.

    Additional applications for establishment by other multinational corporations are at present being considered by the authorities at the Dubai Airport Free Zone and Business Village.
